In Rift, the highest level you can currently reach is level 50. With that said, leveling up in Rift isn’t actually linear. Each time you level up, you get a small stat boost, but you don’t actually learn any new abilities.
Each level gives you 1-2 skill points that you can put into your soul trees. Depending on where you place your points depends on the abilities you unlock. For example, the Marksman’s Deadeye shot is unlocked by placing 8 points in the Marksman’s soul tree, regardless of level.
As mentioned, you don’t actually get one skill point per level, sometimes you get two. The catch with this is that you can only put one point per level into one soul tree. These extra soul points force you to use at least 2 souls when building your ultimate rift character.
While there are a lot of different ways to earn experience points to level up, some ways are definitely faster than others. One of the quickest ways to level up in the game is to participate in Rift Events and Invasions.
Sometimes when you are standing around the world, the sky will darken and a large number of enemies will invade the area. There are often 10 to 20 infestations in the same place. Each time you defeat an invasion, you generally get experience points equal to defeating about 3 or 4 monsters of your level.
As a result, you can earn thousands of experience points when you are in a large group fighting against invasions. During the invasion events, make sure you get into the general pool and find a 20-person raid so you can earn a lot of experience points.
Moreover, PvP dailies offer a lot of experience points (much more than typical missions). If you can get through a few daily PvP missions (found in Sanctum or Meridian) and win your match, you can earn the same amount of experience as many real world missions in half the time!
Additionally, fighting other players in PvP provides some experience points (as does winning a Warfront match), so when you combine that with dailies, getting your daily win is important for fast leveling up.
With that said, there is a typical quest system that can take you to the Rift level cap. The missions are very easy to follow and there are plenty of them, so if you have no desire to fight against Rift enemies or other players, you can easily strive to reach the maximum level of 50.
